Causes of Erectile dysfunction or Impotence in male.

Impotence or erectile dysfunction can occur in any male after the age of 40 years. It may be termed as a condition where a man may be unable to maintain proper erection while having sexual intercourse or failed to reach proper orgasm and premature ejaculation also. Impotence is basically the incapability of a male to copulate while having sex and the reasons may vary in men according to the nature of conditions.
Impotence can be curable provided with the causes known to the patient which not only helps the patients but also allow the doctors to choose right treatment for erectile dysfunction victims. The patient should properly disclose their medical history with their health care physician so that they could easily be cured.
It is generally noticed that patients with history of using certain medications or illegal recreational drugs are contributing 25 percent of the total impotence cases recorded as yet. Cutting down such drugs can reduce the chances of this problem. Men riding sports cycle for three hours per week also complain the erectile dysfunction.  While suffering from erectile dysfunction, the patient may examine different physical issues with his penis. Examination of such symptoms can give several clues about the main cause of the impotence. Here are some of the symptoms showing the causes of impotence in male;
Systemic Disease
Problem in nervous system may be the reason if the sexual organ not responds while sexual arousal or retort low as expected.
Endocrine system and hormonal disorders can be identified from the hair pattern and this could also lead to abnormal sex characteristics.
If any patient feels aneurysm in the abdomen, this may be an indication to circulatory problem as it is caused by weakening of blood vessels.
Peyronie’s disease may cause the penis to bend while sustaining erection and this unusual symptom shows the root cause of impotence in men.
Several laboratory tests for systemic diseases include blood counts; lipid profile, urinalysis and measuring lever enzymes in the body. These tests are helpful for treating impotence. Tests for measuring testosterone level in blood are conducted to diagnose the symptoms of low sexual arousals.
There are several other tests that indicate psychological causes of impotence in male, test like monitoring the nocturnal penile tumescence can also help to sort out causes behind impotence. Nocturnal penile tumescence referred to the erections occurring during sleep time of a male and if it does not occurs then the cause of erectile dysfunction is physical. But these tests are not completely reliable.
Since there are a combination of events requires in getting a sustained erection so there may be chances of any disruption in such events causing impotence. Sexual arousal in the brain by nerves and response of penis muscles is required for getting erection while damage of arteries and weak response of fibrous tissues to brain signals may results in impotence. Some diseases like kidney disorders, diabetes and vascular diseases are contributing more than 70 percent causes of impotence. While many diabetes patients have chances to experience erectile dysfunction or impotence.
Surgeries near the lower abdomen like prostate surgery can injure the nerves and arteries relating to penis and may lead to impotence. Any Injury to the pelvis muscles, penis, prostate or bladder may results in causing erectile dysfunction. Many medicines used by the patient’s results in producing impotence as a side effect, like statins used by the patient to control cholesterol in the body whereas cholesterol is responsible for production of hormones required. High blood pressure drugs, ulcer drugs and many tranquilizers may cause impotence as their side effects.
Erectile dysfunction caused by psychological factors can be 10 – 20 percent of the overall impotence cases which may include depression, anxiety or guilt, low self esteem or fear of sexual failure.
Smoking and obesity are other possible causes of erectile dysfunction as they affects blood flow and body structure.
